It has been an entire week since I traveled 2,243 miles (thanks Google Maps) from Columbus, Ohio to the beautiful and smoggy city of Los Angeles, California. After snatching up two internships for the summer, I made plans to live with my brother and his girlfriend in West Hollywood for 8 weeks.
Eight weeks may not seem like a long time, but think of it this way: an apartment with 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom being shared between 3 people is not typically ideal. However, I was given a powder room/closet to use for my convenience and privacy. I like to refer to this room as my "HP room," even if a twin sized bed could not possibly fit. Harry should have been more grateful for his spacious area.
It may sound like I'm complaining, but I am more than grateful and happy to be living off my brother...
But no, seriously. It would be a pain to have to pay for a place, and I would never have came out here if I didn't have a futon to crash on every night. Thanks Charles Young Son/ChYoSo.
I may be lucky to have my big brother for sharing his place with me, but I definitely repay him with becoming his personal servant. "Lindsey, get me water." "Go wash the dishes." "Clean the toilet and the entire bathroom." "Help me shoot this video all day tomorrow." By obeying half of those requests, he should feel just as lucky to have me (love ya bro).

My brother shooting/directing a video for the Epilepsy Foundation. I got to help and be a part of this really interesting experience/process! |
Living with my brother for the first time since ten years isn't the only thing I am adjusting to. I am also learning to be un-lazy. Being a college student is not as hard as we make it out to be. Going to work full-time...now that is something to get used to. After a week of being introduced to the companies I intern for, I have already consumed a lot of useful information. For example, I am the person people will look at when they need something dropped off 3 miles away. For those of you who don't know the streets of LA, driving 3 miles can take anywhere to 10-50 minutes, depending on the traffic, the driver, and the connection on your phone. What I mean by it depending on the connection is that when my phone chooses to be slow, my GPS is delayed and I miss my turns, which is followed by me screaming at the GPS woman for not telling me in time.
Although I am understanding that being an intern can come with doing "bitch work," I also am involved in a lot of interesting aspects of the companies. I get to sit in on meetings and conference calls. I have the chance to learn more about the PR and marketing industry (what I am going to school for). And I am given the chance to meet a lot of brilliant people. It is safe to say that I am both terrified and excited for the next 7 weeks.
What do I do in my free time? I still watch a lot of television because, let's face it, I am obsessed with my shows. But I also go out and enjoy LA!

I also decided to pick up a new hobby - the ukulele.

So far, I have learned a couple of chords and how to play "Bubbly" by Colbie Caillat (or at least I think I can play it). |
I'm taking full advantage of my time here, and I am loving it!
This summer is definitely my time away from Ohio, but I will be back in time for Ohio State's fall semester in mid-August. But once I leave LA, I will be flying straight to Atlanta to live with my baby sister GyYoSo for six lovely weeks! This is my last summer before I have to go out and get a "real job" after I graduate; why not go all out, jump out of my comfort zone, and live a little?!
